Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has summoned the Education minister who doubles as the first lady Janet Museveni over the new curriculum. Kadaga first summoned Mrs. Museveni on Friday and told her to appear before Parliament on Tuesday but she did not show up and sent the ministry’s apology through the State minister for Primary Education Rose Mary Sseninde. The Speaker wants Mrs. Museveni to explain why the education ministry is trying to defy the Parliament resolution of suspending the implementation of the new curriculum for lower secondary education. In her apology, Janet said that the ministry was not yet prepared and requested to be given some time and issue a statement on the matter. Kadaga accepted the minister’s apology but gave her the last warnings and said that she is expecting her to address the August House about the new curriculum. Kadaga added that if Mrs Museveni fails to appear on Thursday then disciplinary action will be taken. On Sunday, Mr. Museveni summoned the NRM Caucus and discussed the new curriculum where the NRM Mps unanimously approved the curriculum and accepted that it should be implemented immediately.
